While I was trying to figure out what to document for that day at Henderson Hopkins at Harlem Park, a specific friend group stood out to me. They weren’t doing anything special besides their artwork, and as soon as I snapped that picture they turned round shocked. The reason being more that I took a picture and scared them than the fact that I had a camera.
They wanted to learn how to use it, so I took safety measures before I taught them how to do anything with the camera. I learned their names, ages, and most importantly I learned about them specifically. To build trust, because if I don’t trust them I can’t let them hold things that aren’t entirely mine. That went well, built up a bond and mutual respect.
As soon as they got the camera in their hands they took pictures of their artwork and their friends’ work too. I took pictures of them and their artwork to showcase their personalities and creativity.
